Sir.

"The Hong Kong Telegraph," an evening

newspaper published in this Colony under British

direction, by the South China Morning Post, Limited,

celebrates the 50th anniversary of its establishment

on June 15th next.

The object of this letter is to enquire

whether you would be good enough to forward us a

brief message for publication in a Special Jubilee

Number which we hope to issue.

During the period of its existence, the

"Telegraph" has consistently striven to uphold British

interests and to promote Anglo-Chinese friendship

not only in this Colony, but also in the extensive

area in South China in which it circulates. In this

connection, we may mention that in Hong Kong alone

there are approximately a million Chinese inhabitants,

of whom the greater number are subjects of His Majesty!

the King.
